Located in the Gellerup settlement, Aarhus DK, earlier known for its social challenges, new densification is part of the strategy to lift the area through a more diverse demography. Focused on shared facilities and community creation, the design aim to strengthen social sustainability contributing to a positive transformation of the neighbourhood.
Community creation an important driving force behind the design of Solhverv with a large variety of apartments and several types of shared functions. At the top of the building are the communal functions that are targeted at the residents, while on the ground floor there are a number of facilities, including a lounge, kitchen and workshop, which can be used by residents of the entire housing association.
Reducing resource consumption has been an important focus in the project, which means that we have been able to reduce the amount of concrete in the facade elements by up to 30 % compared to traditional elements.
