1st prize Raumscape

ADEPT named winner of the high-profile public space competition Raumscape in the central Prague UNESCO heritage zone with a proposal that unfolds the transformed public space as a living urban landscape.

Our winning design responds to the competition framework, blending the Raumplan principles formulated by Adolf Loos with landscape. The result is a design that appears fluid and integrated with a variety of spatial experiences.

The concept is organized as a five-layered groundscape: a continuous and fully accessible urban surface prioritizing pedestrians and everyday mobility; a mosaic-inspired paving that builds on Prague’s rich tradition of public space craftsmanship; an urban canopy of trees that provides shade, climate mitigation, and seasonal variation; an open city stage for daily life and cultural events; and a low, circular pavilion that activates the square’s edge and supports public life. The jury specifically highlighted our design for the way it handles the scale of both pavilion and open spaces, the permeability of the site, and its relationship to the Brutalist hotel as well as the way the landscape design meets both requirements for spatial clarity and environmental adaptability.

From a record-breaking 197 applications to 6 finalists, we are honoured to be selected the final selection to reimagine this important urban link anew. The jury highlighted our design for the way it handles the scale of both pavilion and open spaces, the permeability of the site, and its relationship to the Brutalist hotel. The landscape design successfully meets the requirements for spatial clarity and environmental adaptability.
